Engine Wire Harness
Hi
My car difficulty driving uphill, there is a humming noise if I try to accelerate. It struggles to reach 40 to 60km/hr. I notice engine could be engine harness issue. How to remove the 3 pair of wires going into the engine? Rgds |

from those pics it looks like you need to check your electricals asap, also check your tranny fluid level, low atf level can give you slow take off and slow shifting to higher gear plus a humming sound from the tranny area.

Mr vehicle is C220 W202 1994, Engine 111.961 , chasis 202.022
Is the feul injection wiring harness part number 202 540 3132? Is there a instruction how to remove this wire harness, I have now remove all bu two wires going downwards. This is a pic of what mine look like, thats a pic of a removed part from another posting. |

additional question C280 1995 DIY
I also am curious about how much time is involved in the removal and replacement of the wiring harness for a 1995 C280, as a DIY project.
Any tips or special tools?? I plan to order mine from Fastlane in a few days. Thanks ![]()

I wish there is instruction how to DIY for W202 coz that W140 wiring look simple compared to my harness. I'm told I need to use trolley jack, then jack stand, remove passenger side wheel to remove the rest of wire connectors which are out of reach, hiding under or side of engine. Currently no one can even tell me , what or where those wires leads to.
Is it to the knock sensor, to oil level sensor, to Cranshaft sensor or even to the ignition coils? I am now checking the spark plugs, which look OK, the leads, the coils & later the throttle actuator wirings (internal wiring insulation disintergrating). Friendly to the environment, just like us, humans. |

This is throttle Actuator wirings with very fine hairline cracks every where.

rmt6668, Great pitures for the forum and archives. THANKS. that throttle actuator looks like the internal wire insulation could be re-insulated with 'liquid electrical tape' or something. Assuming the wires do not touch any metal under the insulation that can not be reached by the insulation fluid. This would be feasable if those internal wires can't be replaced and resoldered for some reason.
However ,I do not know how heat resistant the liquid electrical tape is. Just ordered my new harness from Phil at Fastlane (with VIN reference to be sure) , so soon the '95 C280 will be back on the road. P.S. thanks deanyel for the time quote.

Are you removing & replacing them yourself. If so pls share some of the pic but imprortantly the details how to DIY.Pls update us.
I wonder if I can just use clear silicon to hold & insulate them? But I need to splice the big black wire to check its condition. That wires will be a big ask. |

here is where you got stuck. The waires that seem to descend down driver side fender, do NOT. Open the pictured black box's lid and there you see that the engine wire harness end attaches to other wires inside this junction box. Unscrew the retaining nut closest to the front of the car. That releases the wire harness end that you could not figure out.

tips, also to know that the wire harness connectors at the starter and just below the oil filter are hard to get at.
The wire harness long connector at the front of the driver side fender has to be accessed by removing the narrow plastic 'splash' cover. That harness connector has a top cover that slides off. You remove the block of wire plugs from the old connector and reinstall into the new connector. That new connector 9socket) has its own wire sockets but you need to install the other auxilliary plugs and then close the connector up and plug it in. pic shows general location by the SRS..

my c280 1995 had the same symptoms as yours and after replacement of wire harness (bought from Fastlane) it operates well. I did not operate the car at all after the first sypmtoms. I did not want to fry anything. The indie mechanic did not bother with the throtle actuator.
A do it your self project is feasable with patience. Use the old harness as a reference. Takes a tech 3.5 hours so expect your DIY to take more.
