W124 Bible by Stu Ritter - how useful?

I just got a copy that came in the box with other parts I ordered, I feel like a kid opening a brand new coloring book

From what I've read, the book is highly recommended but I was wondering from your experiences how useful has it really been? I've read some articles aren't as accurate so I'll take them as forum threads, with a grain of salt and an open mind. I haven't opened it yet but I will in a few minutes.

When I got my w123 300D I had a Haynes manual to go with it and I read it a couple of times the first time I got it. I never had anything to read when we got the w124 300TE so now is the time for that.

How many of you w124 owners also have this? I'm just curious.

You will read it over and over

I think it’s a great reference for technical facts about 124s. It has minimal use as a resource for fixing the cars, but that was not his intent. I refer to it a lot to remind me about the different features for varying models and model years, and for his good explanation of the mechanical components. You can buy the Haynes MB 124 Series Service and Repair manual #3253-384, and mostly, I use the Mercedes W124 Owners Workshop manual ISBN 0-9584026-1-2 and the factory MB 124 service manual.

The book has little value as a repair manual. It is interesring to read, but after going thru it once, you may feel that you've gotten about all you're going to get out of it.

My 2 cents.

get it at the library

Read it free at the library. Then you'll know you don't need to buy it.

He used to run one of the early Mercedes Benz internet mailing lists and is very well known as a W124 enthusiast and expert, and had a shop in Colorado which I think he is now retired from.

He loves the 400E, thinks it is one of the best cars there is, of the W124 cars.
