'96 C220 Engine Cranks, No start -Possible Start Lock Issue?
Any input on possible solution to this? Open door w/key remote, turn key in ignition, lots of cranking but won't start - during this, red & green lights on rearview mirror blink like crazy leading me to believe it has to do with the start/lock system. At this time as well, can't close windows or sunroof. Tried to start w/valet key but no luck.
Appreciate any thoughts before I have to tow this in - thank you in advance. |

Does you remote key allow you to lock & un-lock? If not then that is most likely the problem. That 1996 "only" system needs to see that infra-red signal to authorize start.

Yes, during this mess, remote key would lock and unlock doors. As a last resot, my husband disconnected and reconnected battery with "resetting" type thought in mind.....like magic, the car started.
So....any thoughts on what what made it go whacky; is it the age of the car - electrically do they tend to go batty????? It's been a great car up till this but after getting stuck once I am aprehensive about driving to far from home. Thank you again for any insight. |

Doc,
When you say the infra-red signal, does the infra-red signal comunicates with the ignition key when trying to start the vehicle or only when unlocking and locking the car? I'm having some identical issues and I'm trying to determine if I do have a start lock issue. Thanks in advance. Norman |
