400 E aux fans
Hello everyone,
My ' 92 400 E's aux fans aren't working. So far, I've tested the relay and was able to make it click by jumping the brown wires on the dryer switch. The fans won't come on either when I jump the temp sender on the engine. So, I pulled the fan relay and checked for power. I found out that I'm not getting power on terminal 30 for the relay. I've checked fuses 7 and the 15 A fuse near the strut tower. Where does terminal 30 on the relay get its power from? Also, I know my fans and resistor (new) are good since I can jump power to terminals 87 a or b of the relay and the fans turn on. Thanks in advance, Dave |

Fuse 7 is relay coil fuse..that is Ok b/c you have a clicking relay.
Your problem is No power to Load side of relay [ 30] This is fed from aux fuse holder F22/2..that should be to the left of the fuse box ..it will have heavy Red leads in/out. I do not believe you are looking at the correct fuse holder b/c fan aux holder should be 30A.. The best test for these type fuses is to take a 12v test lamp reading on BOTH sides of fuse b/c they look fine and will fool you [ or just jumper them with a fused jumper.] Of course , make sure key is ON... |

Fixed! thanks
Hi Arthur,
That was the problem. The metal fuse link was broken. I had to replace the resistor and some of the wire supplying it, so hopefully that is what caused to fuse to blow in the first place. The a/c works much better now. Thanks, Dave |

Very Good.
It is so nice to be able to just post a few tips and have a guy like you on the other end just follow the diagnosis...I usually get stuck with the '"Well, what do I have to do that test for ??? " guys....10 post later , they get the same job done..but by then my 2 typing fingers are worn out..... ![]() |
