1995 S500, engines wont exceed 4500 rpm, acts like fuel cut off. Bad fuel pump Relay

Car will not exceed 4500rpm, acts like rev limiter. Is it a fuel pump relay? Or....?

If "stationary" in anything other than N or P is it even possible to get it up to 4500rpm and remain stationary?

BTW Arthur- There is a 2nd thread where the person has no speedo AND abs/asr issues. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=184610

No disrespect intended Arthur and in all seriousness I'll be very interested in your reply given the speedo/abs/asr info.

Ps: I7tom - the forum works better if you get it ALL out in the open in ONE place at ONE time; then folks like Arthur can actually help you through your issues.

That is short-hand for 'Is the 4500 rpm when the car is stationary, ie, in N or P.. or does it limit rpm when driving down the road.
Reason being. there is a torque converter RPM limiter that is activated when the car is stationary, but over -ridden by the Vehicle Speed Sensor circuit when the cars VSS senses over 8 mph.. ie- not stationary..
Many complaints about rev limit are posted without making that distinction,
where the poster does not know that in N/P that is NORNAL limit for converter saftey...

I believe that the ABS, ASR lights on and Speedo in operative, could be related. In all gears at various road speed it will shut down at 4500RPM, likewise it does the same in P and N.

That is b/c the rev limit over-ride circuit is not responding to car movement, [ verified by no speedo], so with abs lamp, etc. . I would suspect a wheel speed sensor..and I would look at the left/front first as I think that one is also speedo.. not sure on that point, but should be one of the fronts..
Do a search on it...
Check the fuses too..

Here is one I posted long ago for 16 pin ..just don't get the RS bananna plugs, as they are a different size from the 38 pin plug sockets on your chassis..you can use single strand copper wire of the correct size for lead ends to fit your diagnostic box...........
Go to the opening pages of that site and they will show you the 38 pin orientation for your 140.051 chassis..........................

As mentioned , you may want to delete the other same post, as it confuses
the postings/answers from others and usually you will get more response if all the info comes into one post.
Some of us won't even bother answering a double post or a bump....

300ce rev limit problem

i recently purchased a 1988 300ce euro spec and there a many things wrong. one of my main problems is the 4000-4500 "rev limit" when i purchased the car under the front seat there was a bad fuel pump reley burnt up.. and one of the 2 fuses in the overload relay was blown.. the fuel pump relay was replaced but with a different model stock number (original 002 545 52 05 new one 003 545 20 05) im going to the junk yard to get one with the same stock number. also with the second fuse in the overload relay the car idles at 2500 rpms but with it out it idles fine but still has the same rpm cut off.

the shift problem is my biggest problem right now especially driving on european highways around 110-120 kph. when it trys to shift into the final gear and then there is the max speed of 150 kph...
any help would be great

As the previous posts in the thread clearly point out, there is a designed in rev limiter when the car is in Neutral or Park. Normal.

However, you didn't say whether, in your situation, your problem in in N or P, or all gears.

I suspect the vehicle speed limiter is a different designed in function.

im pretty sure if im going 120kph im not in park or neutral and if the car maxes out at 155kph on the autostrada i must be in gear... no rev limit in park or neutral and i have a rev limit when im in gear. the abs light is on, the overload relay may be bad, the tach works the speedometer works.. the odometer does not work and the red light next to the abs is on.. there are two leters on it.. i dont remember what it says.
