Jim: You have the M103 engine, right?

What is your issue with the idle?

That sounds very cheap, hope it's all good . I've found rust in behind the plastic cladding at the bottom of the front fenders on my coupe , and some around the jack holes as well . I've got 265,000 km on mine, I've done water pump, head gasket, fan tensioner, cap, rotor, plugs. Underneath I've done tranny, 4 coil springs, tranny mount, diff mounts, muffler and resonator. Hey, it only sounds like a moneypit . Good luck.

Benz..yes, I do have the 103 SOHC... as do all 88 & 89's (I think).

When stopped at a light, after running at higher speeds, it will just hesitate a bit for a split second. It seems to me to be sporadic. Never stalls. Not noticable under cold startup.
I live with it. Had it a long time, no better no worse. When it starts getting worse, I'll tend to it. I don't want to go on an expensive part fishing expedition.

Jim, there is a "fix" found on Stu Ritter's book for this issue. It involves jump wiring 'something." It raises the idle speed just enough (I think it says just 50 rpms or so) to get rid of the occassional hesitation or spur.

The M103 in my 89 300TE has developed it and thatis what Enrique, from MR MB MOTORS has recommended.

I'll look for the page on ritter's book and copy it and send it to you by e-mail.

There are no new parts involved so the fix is "cheap."

Let me know.

BENZ-LGB: Do you have the same problem with your 91 300ce? Can you send me some info about this fix? Thanks.

Page 143 in Stu Ritter's book?

Maybe not since it refers to cold starts.

I am one of them .

I just picked up a prstine 1988 Mercedes 300CE. It has 90,000 original miles on her. She is Silver with Lapis Blue Leather (color 452). Everything works, except for the driver's side seat-belt extender. Best part? I only paid $2,500.00- Think i got a good deal??? I found her on craigslist (NJ). I never had an M103 before... any comments or thoughts? I would love to hear what you guys think. I am an M104 guy myself-

So a few questions-
-Anyone know what could be wrong with the seat-belt extender???
-Any common issues to look out for?

Thanks!
Michael

Talking 92 300ce

I have to admit that I paid $9500 for my 92 300CE with 87K on it. It is a beautiful car, in excellent condition and I did not mind that price considering its potential increasing value as a coupe. It already had a valve job done on it and the cats replaced; runs very well indeed on the highway. Ben Carter

I think that i am the other one. Mine, however was a tad under $5,500.00.

It was low mileage (for So. Calif) when I bought it a few months ago.

It is no longer low mileage...I love driving my little red coupe.

My coupe has the M104 engine and it starts and idles flawlessly. In fact, it idles smoother than any car I've owned, my former 420SEL included.

I've been on vacation for the past 2 weeks. When I reutrn to work I'll look for the page I scanned and mail it to you.

How is life in Fresno? Have you made any recent trips to Enrique?

In fact,he knows about the idle "fix."

I certainly appreciate it. It's hot up here in the valley, fortunately it looks like there will be some relief starting tomorrow.

My 90 300CE also has M104. It has 140k now. I recently worked on the flex discs and transmission mount, the result is amazing. On highway, it accelerates all the way to 100mph, smooth as silk.

It's been several years that I do sometimes get the "stop-go" twitch, it only happens when try to pick up speed during a car slow down or after a complete stop, such as at the red light. It happens more when the engine is hot in the summer. I believed it's a fuel injection/fuel supply problem. But after countless hours of tinkling, I start to wonder maybe its the ignition/idle control electronic issue......

You know, I certainly wish I can live closer to Mr. MB. However at the same time I wish I can have this trivial solved on my own. A man's dilema.

I am a cheapskate, you know that.
