I have never seen a tire split at the bead though. I'm with the other guys on tire failure.

I think the rear control arms may be worn on my 2.0. There are bushings on each side that are shot anyway (I know I know, I should replace them but one thing at a time!). When you accelerate the back end moves one way, when you let off the back end moves the other way! The car actually changes direction! It's worse with more weight in the car, and not very noticeable when empty. The 16v doesn't do that. I'll get a proper inspection done though of course.
