AMG SEC's how many built?
Title is pretty much self explanatory
I made a search on the net but found nothing exact. So i wonder if any of the members can tell me how many genue SEC's built in total by affalterbach. Such info is very important for me because a friend of mine insists only 55 were built, but i think it's more than that. So we bet on it. Thanks in advance |

It's probably more than that, but there is absolutely no way of knowing. His "guess" is probably 55 because I can't imagine of any facts he might have to support his answer.

Your question is very vague....
AMG, as has been said many times before, was a private tuner company back then and built things up to customer's spec. I can tell you for sure there were WAY more than 55 built at Affalterbach. There were widebody and normal body'd SEC's built with AMG tuned engines. The engines also varied in flavors... from the DOHC to SOHC engines in different displacements (5.0, 5.2, 5.4, 5.6 and 6.0). I've seen AMG SEC's which have not had any visual work done (no bodykit), but had wheels and suspension done with a tuned engine. This car is still considered an AMG eventhough it doesn't "look" like one. I've listed 5 different displacement engines, and some of those where offered in either DOHC or SOHC... so that alone tells you that its unrealistic that only 55 AMG tuned SEC's were built over in Affalterbach. What *could* be true regarding the 55 number is the number of AMG 6.0 DOHC Hammer's built. However, I wouldn't be surprised if the real number was much higher. |

Thanks a lot to everybody who responded.
And yes 55 seemed too little to me. I also believe a lot more than 55 should have been built just to keep the company open. That guy claims to have a genue 1985 500SEC AMG and he asks 75000 euros for it! (aprox 100000 us dollars). When he is asked to explain such an "extraordinary" price, he says "only 55 built so its worth it". I do not think so... not that much... Now i have sufficient and reliable info to oppose him. Thank you guys. Once again shop forum rules!! |
