Remove the battery ground cable connecting nut under the little plastic cover below the passenger side rear seat and check for corrosion.

E320 Charging Light On

I Pulled Ground From Batt And Also From Floor Under Seat On Pass Side And Found A Little Bit Of A Film On The Cable And The Lug . Cleaned And Reinstalled And Still Have A Lite On When First Started.
I Have Also Pulled Dtc's. There Are None And Have Also Put A Volt Meter On Wire Coming From Alternator To K40 And To Ic I Have About .2 Volts At K40 From Alt. After Throttling To 1800 It Comes Up To Charging Voltage. Also Put Meter On Wire From Batt To Alt And Have Batt Voltage At Alternator Prior To Start. There Has Been 4 Alternators And 2 Batterys
Put On This Car To Fix The Problem And After It Got To Be Expensive The Car Got Handed To Me To Fix. I Have Had This Car Twice To Fix But Cust Will Not Leave For More Than A Day Or Two.
Thanks Mark

Mark,

What kind of "new alternators" had been put on your car? My car had the same problem for months and drove us nuts. We sent out the alternator for a rebuild at a reputable shop with no luck. Problem went away when we put a BOSCH remanufactured from MB on--- $600!

Just for kicks, did you check and clean the accessory cable at the positive port on the battery?
If there is the slightest corrosion on there you can get funny things happen.
Had a clk soft top problem that was kicking the technicians butt, turned out to be the slightest corrosion at the small eyelet on the small red wire at the positive battery terminal.
