300E 1987 Cutting off problem

Hi,
It's a 1987 300E with manual five speed. Car iddles fine but when I coming to a stop and take my foot of the accelerator to press the clutch and the brake the iddle races down below 500 rpm and cut off. On the other hand if I conpress the engine down to a stop it does not cut off. Advise please.

Thank you

Please do search on the Over Voltage Protection relay (OVP), its a good place to start at least...
