Question 2002 C240 What to look for

My younger brother placed a deposit with a dealership on a 2002 C240 with 57,000. on it. The dealer was not a MBNZ dealer so he took it to a local MBNZ dealer and had them check it out. They said that the B service had not been done and was over by 4300 miles. I looked at what was covered by this service and it was not anything earth shattering. The three things that stand out are as follows.
1. The thrust bushings are cracked and leaking , never been changed. Which bushings are they talking about ?. The only ones I can think of are the just inboard of the rear dics.

2. The footwell flapper ( stepper ) motors are stiff or blocked. How much for parts and is it an easy job.

3.I am not familiar with these cars at all. Is there anything else I should be concerned with a known issue with these cars ?.

Thanks for any input.
Alan

I think the foot well flapper is a five hour repair job? so at a MB dealer figure around six-hundred labor for a twenty-five dollar part. Whole dash gets removed.

Those cars have some electrical issues, ESP wiring connectors is one.

Those cars really aren't meant to have their oil changes extended any longer than what the FSS - onboard service computer - alerts you to. But it simply may be car was out of warranty when the last B serovce came around and owner had oil change done elsewhere or maybe not.

If you don't get a Mercedes backed extended warranty with the car be VERY WEARY. That would be a deal breaker for me.

I have a 2002 C240, purchased from new, have had a light sensor replaced and ESP wiring harness replaced while in warranty and an alarm system control unit replaced out of warranty $450.

Tell him to buy a new 2007 Mini.

Ethan , Thanks for the info. I am meeting him sunday night to look at the car. I agree about the deale warranty. My first 2 MBNZ were Starmark previously leased vehicles. The warranty saved my butt ( and wallet on both )
within the first 2-3 months . After that everything was smooth.
