checking automatic transmission oil level

i have a 1998 mercedes c2oo elegance automatic and need to check my automatic transmission oil level.it says on the top of the cap "workshop only " .because of this i am reluctant to try and remove this in case i cause some damage. am i able to withdraw this indicator/cap ? if so how does one actually take it off ?

there is a special tool required to actually check the level, so unless you have the tool i would leave it alone until you do, or go to a shop that has the ability to check it for you

And then you have to check the fluid level at a specific fluid temperature.
The marks are at 25 Centigrade and 80 Centigrade.

So you can get the cap off, but it won't do you much good.

Perhaps you already know this, but this car has the "Lifetime Fluid" transmission. Smartest thing you can do is have the transmission serviced at an independent MB shop using the genuine MB fluid. Do this every 30,000 miles and your transmission should last a very long time.
