500SEL (W140) no kickdown
Hello all,
Have a 500SEL that I bought a couple of months ago. Really fast car. Noticed that there is NO kickdown function in any gear. Have tried to floor it at 50kmh and 100kmh (approx 30mph and 60mph) and it doesn't kick down into a lower gear. I can hear the kickdown switch under the gas pedal "click" so I know it's not being covered by the mat (and is actually being pressed by the pedal) Where do I start troubleshooting? The only things I can think of is to pull the kickdown switch and bypass it to see if the switch is dead. Where do I go from there? I already checked the fuses. Only one fuse relates to the transmission (covers the horn and "autom. transmission" whatever that means). It's good. Any help would be appreciated! Neal
