190e 2.5-16v (sls and other questions)

greetings to all

how can I tell if the sls is working on my 16v? Had the car idling and loaded the trunk. Nothing self-leveled! Is there a problem or am I just not understanding how the system actually works?

Yellow warning triangle lights up when wheels spin. Does this mean that asd is ok or are the two not related? (asd light goes out after ignition)

What are the best lubricants to use in this car's engine, auto gearbox, diff, hydraulics, cooling system?

Have a roughish idle with some hesitance on pull-off. Also have some oil in my air filter housing. Sounds tappety too. Any ideas?

Thank you

With the engine running & a load of 50-100lbs is added the system should correct the rear chassis height.

The only item that SLS & ADS share are the hydraulic pump.

Running problems can come from an assortment of items...ignition is the most common..ON that engine valve adjustment is very important.

The light flashing when the tires spin is normal I believe, at least that is what it does on the newer cars. When the system is working to stop the tires from spinning it will flash to show it is active. This is what my W203 does when I get on the gas too much. It will brake and cut the fuel on mine to eliminate wheel spin.

thanks for the feedback

I sat on the rear with the trunk lid open but did not notice any height adjustment. Do I have a problem?

Is the yellow triangle linked to the asd? How can I tell if asd is working? What exactly does asd do? Does it lock the diff sending 50/50 to each of the rear wheels?

According to the Bosch service system it's something like this:

The ASD system works up to approx 26 mph. It is designed for traction in snow and ice, rather than to improve traction round a track. Most of the time it does nothing, and the diff's natural LSD effect provides a small amount of lockup (10% I think?). When the computer detects the rear wheels turning faster than the front (i.e. wheelspin) it powers the asd pump which locks up the diff hydraulically. This locks up to 100%. I'm not sure if it happens instantly or slowly. My tests in the recent snow here in the UK seemed to show it took about 1-2 seconds to achieve 100% lockup - so the lockup obviously occurs relatively slowly, not instantaneously. Incidentally the ASD is great in snow. I went up the same hill in my 2.5-16 with ASD and my 2.0 auto without ASD. The 2.0 just sat at the bottom of the hill spinning one wheel, but the 2.5-16 crawled up like a spider.

When the asd is doing something, the light in the dash lights up. Above ~26mph, the light will light up but the asd does not actually do anything. It is just a warning sign then...

I have had mine light up at 70mph round bends.

I too don't see much affect if I sit on the rear of my 16v - neither have I seen it on other 16v's. It's not like the Citroen system that raises and lowers the car automatically, I think it works differently somehow??

does that system use the nikovat shocks?

on the magnums such shocks are used and nothing happens til you drive and hit some bumps. then the shocks somehow adjust themselves and level the car.

but in that case i don't think any pump is involved, so your system must be different.

You are thinking of another type of system. My Volvo uses it. It has weak springs and a special type of shock that adjusts as it get "pumped" up during driving.
