'94 w124 Cabriolet rear window motor replacement
My kids reported smoke rising from under the back seat for a short time and I later found the right rear window inoperative from any switch. The grommet where the motor wire passes to the window cavity is slightly melted. The wires show signs of heat, the wires look okay but continuity at the motor side of the connector is wide open. No fuses are blown.
Question. How do I remove the motor? (I cannot find the procedure on the maintenance CD). I removed the three nuts but I'm not sure how to deal with the cable. ?undo the torx screws and remove it from the drum? It does not look like the cable will feed through the pulleys if I remove the ends from the plastic block that drives the window. Do I have to remove the entire window and regulator assembly? (I'm not sure how and it looks like a nightmare) please help! |

Update: '94 w124 rear window motor replacement
Question: anyone know where I can get just the motor? Is it the same motor as the door motors? (except head on worm gear) As far as I can tell it's over $200 with the cable assembly (which I wouldn't use)
I decided to remove the torx screws to remove the cable drum from the worm drive. Except for the brushes melted to the armature everything looks good and turns free. The window moves free in the track It's a simple mechanism so I'll just lube and re-use the old cable so I do not have to disassemble half the car. |
