Air Flow meter w124

Hello,

Just a general question for the list.

I have 210K miles on my 1989/300e/w124 and it might time to change the air flow meter. Has anybody had any experience with this item. There has been some comments that this can wear out, as is a mechanical item on the 89 300e.

Any thoughts

thanks

brian

Talking w124/1989 300ce air flow meter

Hello,

This is an update to my previous post.

I have finally installed my Bosch air flow meter.

My idle was getting very low around 500rpm.

So with high mileage[245k] on my w124/300ce thought it was time to replace the Air Flow meter. This a basically a mechanical device and it wears out.

The old one was worn down to the wire.

I have gained some 200 rpm to boot, Wow!

Tricky installation, but went OK. Paid $45 for the part.

Brian

What did you replace, exactly?

The part with the big round flap under the air cleaner? Or the potentiometer on the side of the air flow meter??

For $45?

I thought an air flow meter was about $700 on that car.

What makes you think that there is a problem with the air flow meter?

Air flow meter

Hello,

Brewtoo==I changed the unit attached to the injection body, a black looking thingy with four screws holding it on. Bosch part# 3.437.224.035

Deanyel==If you replace the complete body, yes, I believe its less then $700 though. That has to be the biggest rip off!

Larrybible== I had very low idle, and i had gone through eveything else. The air flow meter is a mechanical device it has a wiper on the inside that rubs against the meter. In my case it had worn through the substrate. For those that have similar issues its worth checking. It was worn at the idle spot or stop!

I pleased with my result because the idle is now back up to 600rpm.

You changed the potentiometer, not the air flow meter.
