92 400e
I'm thinking about buying a '92 400E with 188,000 miles. It starts and runs excellent, has new engine harness and recent tune up. Still it doesn't idle right after it is warmed up. The mechanic says it needs a new computer. Any thoughts on whether this model has a seperate idle control box or does it run off the main computer? Could it be a temperature sender/sensor? Thanks!

Could be a bad MAF meter too.
I'm trying to score a '92 with 181K here too.

There's an idle speed contact switch located on the back upper part of the accelerator pedal...its pretty cheap; you may want to try that first before dropping money on module(s).
Them throttle body actuators get fried too by the heat the M119 kicks out. That's a big dollar item and could also pose a problem. BTDT. But at that mileage, I would think it was addressed by now, but maybe not. Only way to tell is to bust open the throttle body and inspect the wires; typically the insulation on the wires degrade to where its bare wires shorting each other out. |
