How long should front break pads last with average driving?

Knowing that I will leave myself wide open for criticism, I would say 30 - 40 k miles would be " about right ".

I think the problem that you have is identifying exactly what "average" driving would be.

Nobody on the forum can really call themselves "average" because they have nothing for comparison.

PEH can get 100K out of a set of pads on the W126.........and he can be considered at the edge of the distribution.........but for everyone else............what's "average"???

You would need about 20-30 posts of folks who have that exact vehicle.........then you can determine an average.

I always wanted to do an experiment and ask about 100 people, at random, whether they think their intelligence is "above average", "average", or "below average".

What do you think I'll get??

MB uses soft pads using a wide range 10k for NYC type driving with a lead foot, to 40k for typical use.

If you drive all highway and almost never use your brakes, and when you do use them with an egg under your foot then maybe close to 100k.

Three guys walk into a bar.
The bartender, a sophisticated ROBOT ( artificial intelligence ) asks the first guy, " What's your IQ"? Guy says " Oh, about 150 ". Robot starts talking quantum physics, etc.
Robot asks the second guy who responds " Oh, about 100 ".
Robot starts talking about football, baseball, basketball, etc.
He then asks the third guy who says " Oh, about 50 ".
Robot looks at him and says " So,..... your gonna vote Democrats again"!
