W124 steering wheel shimmy / shudder

During two seperate occassion at about 50-60 mph and only during a right-hand sweeper, I've had the steering-wheel shimmy/shudder until I straightened out.

It doesn't do it at speeds under 50mph, or even during right-hand turns at 25-30 mph, or even during a panic-stop.

Any ideas/areas to check ?

TIA,

:-) neil

I would check the steering shock, if not bad then its probably some bushing.
Also maybe a wheel bearing worn or loose, or the spindl? I seem to recall someone having a bad spindle that was doing something odd in a dynamic way.

This kind of problem is hard to find unless using experience OR the shotgun method (replace everything!)

Front control arm bushings. Right bushing is more worn, but replace in pairs.

The 124 uses a differant kind of steering mech. then normal cars. This meens that you have this play that you are talking about, its not abnormal. But if you also have play when the steeringwheel is in center, you have to adjust it. Its done by loosing the nut in the top of the steeringhouse. Then you can adjust it with a hexkey. But bee carefull. If you doo it wrong you can damage the streeinghouse. If you have powersteering you have to loosen. I would recommend to let a MB dealer make this ind of repear.

Steering damper was worn-out with no resistance.

Replaced, and all is well.
