Thanks Forum m103 tuned & a question

Hi all, my first post here, but I have searched and studied the forum for some time. I really appreciate all the dedicated amatuers and techs who have taken the time to share you knowledge. I recently purchased an 87 190 2.6 with 109k miles and while I think it is a sound car it has many many typical w201 problems. My first priority was to get the engine to run properly. Car ran decent, idled at 900 rpm and smelled very rich at idle, no black smoke on acceleration. also overheated at idle.
Replaced:
plugs(hard black fouling, autolite resistor)
dist. cap and rotor
ovp
engine temp sensor
fan clutch
cleaned icv and replace hoses
resealed top timing cover and replaced cam seal.
02 sensor
made eha harness per Mr. Ryan and following Steve B and others directions I was able to set mixture to -1 to -2 ma with air cleaner off. Car now idles smooooth at 750 rpm and pulls strong, however it is sluggish off idle, more so when cold. Do I need to richen it a little or could it be the engine temp sensor for the cis? I am going to attempt to pass emissions soon and am concerned about fouling of the catalyst as it was very rich. Should I just run the poop out of it first, or is there anything else I can do to clean out the soot?

Again thanks for all the great posts, no way I could have accomplished this without everyone heres knowledge.

CIS system relies on potentiometer on side of fuel distributor to provide signal for needed enrichment to accelerate when engine is cold.

Of course cold start injector, idle air valve, and temp sensor must be working, too.

Search archives for potentiometer.

Thanks Kent, I didn't think about the potentiometer, I will search on how to test it and test the temp sensor with my meter, found the values the other day in anouther thread, cold start injector tested and good, I assume idle air valve and idle control valve are one and the same?(rotory valve in front of fuel dist)?
