could I fit a 450 engine to a W123

Months ago I bought a 1978 280E as parts car (no engine nor trans.). The car is in good condition in and out.

Days ago I thought to convert this car in a 450E.

Does any of you have heard of this conversion?

i have thought

of putting a v8 in the 123. i think generally it will fit. i believe you will find that interference with the spring towers will be the rub. the cars that came with the v8 were wider there. now it may fit if you fabricate tubular headers. the steering box may also be a tight spot. a newer 380 or 500 engine i believe is lighter and otherwise very similar to the 450 engine. i would try to get an engine that is the same year if possible to swap in. you also may want to swap in the rear end. the radiator also will need to be bigger, too, prob. best to get a v8 equipped car beside yours and do meticulous measuring. start with two complete cars if possible.

thanks for advise

A friend of mine has a '79 450SLC, this car needs cosmetic work in and out but the engine and transmision are in good condition considering the 150k+ miles on them, from there I thought the conversion.

I considered the 380 and 500 engines also but they are in newer models so I thought that the 450 from the 70's should be better choice and I have the advantage of getting the 450 car for cheap.

The doubts where if it fits or not, but after your advise I should begin with the measuring.
