Question 1988 300E starting problems-Shifter related

Hey people, thanks for reading my post and helping me out.

Today, I tried to start the car and nothing happened.
3 days ago, it gave me the same problem but I switched the lever to neutral
and I was able to start it. I did not have the time to fix it and now I am paying for it. I read some posts about the bushings being shot but today everything is closed as you correctly guessed. Any idea on how to start the car for today (bypassing the nuetral switch perhaps) untill I fix it?
Also, any pics or diagramas available as far aas the bushings go before I attack the job?
I appreciate your help

I had the same problem a few months back; and Arthur Dalton showed me how to test the neutral safety swithc from the emgine compartment. Open the link following this paragraph, and scroll to the 4th post on the 2nd page. My engine started when I applied battery voltage to the switch as directed by Arthur, thus my NSS was at fault. Had a new one installed and the problem was solved.

94 E320 no crank, no start

regards,
Mark

ps. my car is a 94 E320; hope you can get yours started this way.

Unhappy

thanks friend, however the link is not working

BTW, I changes the two shifter bushings (aren't there 3? the delear told there are only 2 but under the impression that there 3).
The shifter works much better now, but I still can not start the car.
Any more suggestions?
can it be that I have to adjust the linkage by the screw by the bushing closest to the shifter? not the one by the tranny?
please any help will be much welcomed
thanks in advance
ACM

I think I am coming closer to solution.
I just noticed that the battery and check engine light do not come on when I turn the ignition key to position 2 (the one before cranking).
I know they should come on and after the engine starts they should go off.
Any idea which fuse or relay is repsonsible for that?
thanks guys
