Silly, age old nit to pick

I've owned a late 70's 300SD, a mid-80's 190e, a 91 190e and an 87 300e.

This silly problem is not unique to Mercedes, but it comes up because I'm constantly frustrated by not having a cup holder convenient for the driver (moi) - or anyone else for that matter!

Coffee, soft drinks (cans and cups) continue to ride between my legs... an unnerving feeling you know.

How does everyone else solve this thorny issue?

The Germans would say you should be concentrating on your driving!

You can get cup holders that clip on to the air vents, or nicer ones from the stealership in various colours that mount on the door or centre console and fold out.

It is true about "paying attention to driving and no cup holders thing"
does not make it right
Anyway, I got mine off ebay. Screw into the area just in front of the door handles, not the best but they work

The attached image is what I use in both my MB and my Volvo (what is it with those Europeans anyway -- don't they require hydration?)
In both instances, I use the glove compartment door to hold it. It works great, is out of the way, yet is still accessible!

I use a cup that looks sort of like this one:

In the center consol... It goes nowhere unless my driving gets real ...REAL aggressive

Go to EBay, key in 'Mercedes cup holder' and you'll get everything from soup to nuts. I really like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7958523064&category=63691
and this 'low buck' item isn't too bad either: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7956195858&category=63691

I had a dual one that went in the center area, but it was a major PIA, could not use arm rest when it has glasses in it and the passenger had to contort themselves to get thier cup into the holder. I would stick with the door type.

The whole no cup holder thing is because of the autobahn. Do you really think sipping hot coffee and driving 100+mph is a good combo? To me MB really became more American when they started to include cup holders.

European view:

"Stop at a cafe, drink your espresso, then get out on the autobahn and DRIVE LIKE HELL!"

The only things I've ever eaten or drunk in any of my cars have been water and those chewy granola snack bars -- no crumbs -- and then only on road trips. If there's traffic around me, I'm concentrating on avoiding them and on controlling my car, not on drinking coffee, so I don't need a cupholder.

If I really wanted a cupholder, I'd get married again.

Cracked me up - chuckled out loud, then refused to explain why to my wife...
