Coolant Flush-CL500, '02
I was wondering if anyone knows the procedure for flushing the coolant on the above vehicle. Specifically, where the radiator drain plug is located, if there is one, where engine block drains are, and any other helpful info.

If you have MB coolant (sheet 325.0) then your coolant has a drain interval of 15yrs/250,000km in a 113 engine. Check your service book.
I personally like to stick to changing it every year in my own car (it's free) and every 3 years in friends cars. I'd just drain it out of the radiator and top it up again, as long as there wasn't oil or solids in the coolant i wouldn't worry bout flushing.........just make sure the mixture is ok.

Aussies may be a bit different on the routine maintenance sheet. Check you rown info. I believe starting with the W211 chassis they went 15 years...well, at least they're not saying "filled for life"!
There is a drain on the bottom of the radiator, need to remove the lower panels to see it, plus you'd want them off to drain it anyways. The block drain is on the right side of the block, has a hex-shaped hole which the coolant drains out of, and also the hex-shape is used to insert an allen socket to loosen it (open it). It's usually a grayish-bluish color. Gilly

It started with W211, but it now extends into other models (including older models). It applies to M112, M113, M166, M271, M275, M104 (although I wouldn't on this engine) and a few others. The ML's, some cross country vehicles and I think all diesels don't get the longer drain interval.
Service sheets for W168, W202, W203, W208, W209, W210, W215, W220 have all been progressively updated accordingly.

They started using "blue" coolant maybe around 2000 or so, instead of the yellowish stuff. Except the ML's, from what I noticed, but all the European assembled vehicles. I wonder if they changed the interval on vehicles with the blue coolant only. I wouldn't trust the yellowish, traditional MB coolant that long. I did coolant changes on some that had reached 3 years with the blue coolant. It looked "fine" to me, but hard to tell with coolant that is already rather dark, even when new. Gilly

At present, do the dealerships when doing coolant changes on the car that came from the factory with blue coolant, refill with blue coolant?

Porsche is filled for life.
anybody up to date on the many problems in both the Porsche Boxster, 996 and Cayenne - the cayenne is a vibration problem, the others engine and trans. A machine falls over in a porsche boxster factory and the result is a bunch of defective late 1998 and 1999 boxsters. |

porsche have been water cooled to close to ten years now.
and since they moved over to water cooled their quality has suffered. but even before the road cars had gone water cooled some of their racing engine flat six had used water cooled heads only, ( excepting F1 and Indy car attempts plus audi based fours and the 928 ) |

The traditional Porsche 911 or "Carrera" has only been water cooled since around 1999-2000 era (The first I believe is the model code "998", I could be wrong, and of course the Boxster). The last of the air cooled was I believe the 993. I think the air cooled Porsche is gone for good, they just can't get it to meet the clean air standards anymore.
Of course Porsche has dabled in water cooling for a long time, just not in the rear-engined configuration (924, 944, and 928 all come immediately to mind). Gilly
