parts cheaper on germanstar.com?
I need a window switch for an 87 300e. It is considerably cheaper ($10 less) on a website called germanstar. Anybody know if this site is reliable? Also, is it possible that this is a lower quality switch? it looks exactly the same as mine, identical numbers on the side and everything. Thanks.

Bad form Dirtysocks.
There may be suppliers out there who sometimes have a lower price on a part or two, but the personalized service you get through PartsShop and/or FastLane, which by the way seriously help support these forums, far outweigh a measly few dollars. How much is their shipping? Did you know that right now FastLane has a special going - free shipping on orders of more than $100. Did you know that FastLane/PartsShop seems to have some of the fastest deliveries going? Hell, I ordered a C-note worth of stuff Wednesday night, about midnight, it is at my door right now (just checked through UPS tracking). On prior orders I have ordered from work in the morning and had delivery by the time I got home. Partsman Phil is a 10-8 guy, no need to slap him and the proprietors of this site in the face.

I think Mike Tangas is right.
This website is a commercial enterprise for its owners to make money selling parts via PartsShop and /or Fastlane. They offer a forum with technical advice as a free service.

whoa, guess I struck a nerve, sorry everyone. I'm new to the site and did not know fastlane was directly affiliated with the forum.

That is alright dirtysocks, no one is really mad at you. Many folks who are recent to the board don't realize the relationship between the board and FastLane/PartsShop and a few of us "enlighten" them

On a business trip to Atlanta last year, I visited the shop that the owners of this site also own, MB Autowerks. Donnie (Benzmac) and Bill Wood (Moderator) showed me around the shop and discussed the history of the forum.
They actually created the forum as a way for owners and technicians of Mercedes Benz automobiles to get together and talk about the cars, diagnosing, etc. Hosting their own website eventually got to be pretty expensive, so they decided to sell advertising (The Tire Rack, Meguiar's, etc.), and sell parts online to help offset the costs of the forum. They say it's a break even proposition, but only they really know...

dirtysocks,
Welcome to the OTHER attentive side of the forum. I was probably just one of the lucky ones, new to the forum, that didn't make that mistake before reading the responses to someone who did. As you stated, this forum is a great asset to MB owners as are the keepers. Membership grows for a good reason. Your response showed class and integrity . . . too often rare. Steve |

As a fitting close to this thread, I will tell of my experience with germanstar.com. I waited to order the window switch from the parts shop because I knew I needed some other things and wanted to order them all at once from partshop, maybe save on shipping. When I finally got around to it, the window switch was out of stock (about three-four weeks ago). So I ended up ordering all the other parts from parts shop and the switch from germanstar.com. It has already broken! When I got it I could tell it was different from the other three switches, but I thought it was maybe because it was new. So today I get in the car and my window won't roll down!I switched switches with an old switch (tongue twister) and the window worked fine! The darned thing is broken already! Not even a month! Well, now there back in stock at parts shop anyway so I'm just going to order one there, where I should have in the first place.
