4th of July brings out some drunks
This weekend some drunk guy gets into a fight with another guy. Drunk guy pushes the other overboard and runs him over with his boat. The cops pull his body out of the water at about 11pm. What a nice way to watch fireworks.
Another idiot backs his boat up onto the lauch. He then takes off the tie downs... d'uh. Then he leaves the boat there while he jumps in the truck with his wife and goes off to find a parking spot. Meanwhile a bunch of people waiting to launch are wondering if they should just cut his boat loose or take shots at his Bud Lite can. Drinking and boating just don't mix.

VA cops are good Americans
On a slightly different note, I think the VA state police were pretty good for this Fourth.
I and about 20 friends spent the day on the VA side of the Potomac in preparation to watch the DC fireworks over the water. Though alcohol isn't allowed, we had a case of beer and some bottles of wine that we drank out of plastic tumblers. My friend Barbara and I were stading next to the asphalt path drinking some vino when a cop pulled up on his motorcycle and stopped. "Just borrowing a little of your shade.", he said. We were probably looking a little nervous. He looked at what we had in our hands and asked, "There isn't any alcohol in those cups is there?" We just stood there with stupid looks on our faces. I was trying to decide if honesty was the best answer here. He asked the same question again, with the same dumb non-response from us. Finally someone else in our group answered, "There's no alcohol here, officer." The police officer smiled and said, "Practice that answer!" and rode away. Pretty cool. |

I'm sure he realized we weren't out there to get smashed, as others may have. As it was, I probably drank two gallons of water as well. None of us got drunk-- 24 beers and two bottles of wine doesn't go too far with 20 or so people. Just enough to have one or two "cold ones".
