How far is the nearest Costco from your home ?

My nearest Costco is exactly 9.8 miles from my residence.

I joined in Omaha, Nebraska a few years ago after a Berkshire-Hathaway shareholders Meeting. Co-Chairman of Berkshire-Hathaway, Charlie Munger had long advised how much he loved Costco's stock. I figured; what the heck, I'll join ....
Well, years later I own a heck of a lot of Costco stock, and am on the gravy train of our company's stock!

I just LOVE the place !

Tons of stuff you need, and want!!!

When you self check out at Costco, you are required to scan each and every item at the self-check out. They video your every move to make sure you are not ripping off the store. And yet they have a dorm/security guard posted at the door who snatches your receipt from your hands and C-A-R-E-F-U-L-L-Y checks each and every item in your shopping cart. You are treated like a common thief.

Thank you but no thank you.

You are not required to use self checkout. That's a choice. And most stores with self checkout have video monitoring, many are a bit buggy. I had one which didn't like that I was holding one of the ten identical items to scan while transferring each other of the nine to the bag.

Yes, Costco has some form of asset retention. They are quickly scanning your receipt to make sure it has around the number of items you have in your cart and checking on the higher value items. Its never been an hindrance to me and I shop there often.

Costco is the alternative for those who think that WalMart is too hoity-toity.

I live a mile and a half from a costco and their corporate headquarters. We do the majority of our shopping there. I sometimes even bike over there to get lunch.

As President of Costco, the demands on your time must be indescribable. On behalf of the entire forum, I just want to express our gratification that you find time to rub virtual shoulders with all us little folk...

Costco certainly appears to be more politically correct than WalMart and I think they are, not just in superficial terms, but in ways that actually matter. I rarely go to Walmart, but I go to Costco frequently. I do wish that Costco had a few more regular items, such as Shell Rotella. They have a number of highly regular items, such as avocado oil at a good price. But a lot of stuff is hit and miss. There is usually one within 5 to 10 miles of wherever I find myself for any length of time.

Although my sister lives on the Washington coast north of Ocean Shores. When I'm there, I am 30 miles from the nearest Home Depot (Aberdeen), and 70 miles from the nearest Trader Joe's or Costco. The nearest actual grocery store is about 15 miles away in Ocean Shores.

But the beach ... whoa

I'm guessing Berkshire Hathaway owns one percent of Costco, which makes Joe a supervisor of management.

ETA: Who would've thought, I'm incorrect. Buffett sold all of his shares in Costco in 2020.
