covid and memory loss is REAL

after getting covid, my memory just isn't the same anymore. hard to explain but i can tell the difference. simple things to remember are no longer simple.

feels like my brain accelerated its aging or something.

one word----ugh.

Its a nasty virus. I suspect you are not alone. Hopefully your memory issues are short term.

You're not alone in those. I'm pretty sure there was some sort of research on cognitive function decrease with people who had COVID, especially in ones that had it in more severe form. Probably has to do with body temp being high for prolonged periods of time. My COVID only made me lose smell for 3 or 4 months and some small motor function issues( had a whole lot of problems getting used to shooting handguns again after it, recoil was feeling really awkward, even switched from .45 to 9mm( https://gritrsports.com/shooting/firearms/pistols/9mm-luger/ ended up with G43x) 'cause of that. Thankfully I'm living only a few blocks away from a local gun store)

I know a guy who gambles on Poker a lot. And he's good at it, too.

Covid hit him hard in that it made it harder to think and also harder to handle the cards. In the biz he is a bit of a card mechanic and can deal you a winning hand or a loser. He does this for show as there are also those who can do this and can easily catch him if he tries it during a game.

But it's a big deal with him as he can't seem to get back in the swing.

I told him to perhaps just do 'friendly' games until he returns to normal.

He understands the mind fog. But the motor skills he lost are easily the worst part.

FWIW, a friend of mine who had covid in the first wave experienced the same mental fogginess for a little over a year and a half afterwards. The good news for him, possibly you and others too, is as time has gone on, his mental acuity has slowly returned to nearly pre-covid levels. Hopefully, the lasting effects prove to be minimal; time will tell.
