The incredible dandelion

I've heard the nutritional virtues of dandelion greens extolled for years. I picked a few leaves over the years but anything in someone's laws would be suspect - weed killer and all.

The Berkeley Bowl, a legendary grocer in Berkeley has a produce section to die for. They opened a second store 1.25 miles west of the original location, founded in 1977, in large part to relieve chronic crowding. This in 2009, they put it close to a freeway off ramp because they had so many chefs coming from around the Bay Area for unique produce.

They sell dandelion greens that are huge, like 10 to 12 inches long, at a good price. I accidentally found a really tasty way to eat them. By themselves, or in a salad they are pretty strong. I could get into it if anyone's interested.

the fresh green leaves taste very similar to chicory, kind of bitter. We use a high acid sherry wine vinegar to counter program.

I didn't look at the video. From what I was told, the flower with the stalk is placed in the water. Sort of to grow. That puts its sugar in the water.

When I am walking around the neighborhood I pick them and feed them to my rabbit. He loves them! We used to eat them when I was a kid. boiled then add vinegar at the table. Very like spinach.

I used to eat dandelion salad in France.

It's great as long as you can get the stuff that has not been dosed with herbicide and weed killer.
