Lovely Lancia

1952 Lancia with coach work by Vignale. Looks very much like a Ferrari of the same era of which some were bodied by Vignale.

Pre-Fiat Lancias are some of the most elegant European cars ever built.

Automotive Loveliness
Sweet ! .
Give the Coupe a pastel solid color and I'd love it .

A buddy of mine does pretty well running a biz that specializes in OEM parts for FIAT, Lancia, Alpha, Jaguar, and BMW. He has a pristine 4 door FIAT, mid 80s I think, I thought I had a photo of it. Also an XKE he's been tinkering with for years.

LBC's
The fastest stock engined Metropolitan Nash you'll ever see and a 1960 (? maybe '61) Morris Mimnor 1000 .
I love tiny little cars that fit like gloves . The met was my touring car until I broke it badly in another state, it's patiently waiting for me to cherry pick from several engines the best parts, slap my modified cylinder head on it, rebuild the Borg Warner M35 slushbox tranny and go thrash it some more . It looks terrible but I love it and the local British Sports Car guys all love trying to keep up with it in the twisty bits . I've been massaging, peaking and tweaking it for twenty some years now . The Morris, I bought it and drove it three times, began working on it and the "Might As Wells" got way out of hand ~ it's a nice solid car but everything but the engine proper, was worn out .

I had a 61 sprite. Basically the same motor. Fun cars to drive!

When I was still in Amsterdam I worked for a guy who had a barn full of Lancia's like these. Mostly coupes, his pride was a Lancia Aurelia B20.

Once hitchhiking in the early 70s I rode in an Austin Mini Cooper. Fun and fast car.
I agree about the Sprite. A buddy of mine had one, an earlier Mk 1, we did some hellacious road trips.

Mine was a pitiful example with a heavily worn engine, but It could really go around a corner!

BMC Engines
Well no ;
The Sprite / Midgets had the 'A' series engine, IIRC your 1961 AH Sprite had a 1000 . The 'A' series engines are smaller displacement and rather rev happy making them idea for sports cars . My Morris has the later 1275 CC 'A' series engine and is also peppy and rev happy . My Metropolitan has a 'B' series engine , higher output and usually longer lasting than the 'A' . series . In general, older British cars tend to be more engaging and fun to drive even if they're slower than other European cars . Then there's the endless initial quality control issues each and every LBC comes from the factory with ~ once you go through and correct all the little mistakes made they're reliable and inexpen$ive to own and operate . -Nate |
