Sounds good. I have no real ideal of where car technology goes from here. Even simple stuff is no longer simple all too often..Plus overall quality seems to be on the decline.
So if I see an interesting older car alternative from time to time that takes my attention. This week it was an older very low milage four wheel drive 2006 Lexus. Loaded with only about 60K kilometers or 36K miles. I am thinking of giving them a call. They have it priced a little too high but I know something that might change that. |

The used car market is more of a mess in my region than I ever remember. If I find a car that interests me. Plus is hard for them to sell. I suspect it is bound for the car auction.
As are the vast majority of trade ins at new car dealers today. My guess if that is on their mind and an offer by me exceeds their auction expectations. We might cut a deal. The asking prices are for those that are unaware of the economic changes. In the used car market. It has really deteriorated in the last couple of years. To the buyers advantage. The older cars like the one I am perhaps interested in. I have not checked it yet. The majority do not want if they can pick up a newer year of junk in comparison for less. So many of the later generations never spun a wrench or know how to really evaluate a used car. Tend to be out of the market for cars like this one as well. It in a way buying on these is like a game. There is not that much money involved either. Since it is hard to impossible to get it financed for customers. Being well over five years old. It is a a good strategy to take cash and let them see it. Never do this on a car that can be financed at a retail car establishment. This car is 13 years old. I will simply explain that if you feel you have to perhaps send this to the auto auction circuit. We might arrange for you getting a little more money out of it from me instead. If it checks out well. Although I have no interest in your asking price. You have been advertising it extensively for some time with obviously no interest. Or if you are not interested in what I propose. I will leave my phone number. Drop back in and give you a couple of hundred for the auction you are sending it to information and date. Simply because it is very unlikely to bring the retail dollars you want. Or even close. When I leave here today without buying the car. I will not want to buy it from you. The response I want is how much are you willing to pay? Or we are not interested in your proposal. Yet they will take my phone number and call if it goes to auction. Guys with money normally will not buy cars this old. Plus buyers with none cannot get it financed usually. Guys with no money and no car skills generally stay away from cars like this as well. Lexus is not a well known label around here either. The vast majority do not even know it is the flagship label of the Toyota company. This year and model has body lines similar to a mid range BMW. Without the mechanical headaches BMW can have. With better overall build quality and reliability than the regular Toyota line usually. Plus decent fuel economy. Rear wheel drive only unless you get the all wheel drive. That this car has. Good solid six speed automatics with paddle shifters. I decided years ago that I cannot keep up with Tom in the amount of cars passing through our household. Plus bottom fishing is kind of a game and fun in my case. Some times I prevail and sometimes not. We never are in a position where we need a car right now. Actually the amount of repos from the banks hitting the auctions is going to exceed demand all too soon I suspect. If it has not already. So prices will probably drop at the auto auctions. The rate of auto loan defaults is already substantial and growing. Most brands are now going to a five year warranty. So as long as the milage is under the warranty allowance. There should be a substantial amount of safe buys there. Retained value on newer cars has been really dropping fast. At least in our region. Last edited by barry12345; 03-02-2019 at 04:17 AM. |

Today Ralph called and said after all that work it is working fine. He believes he cause of it all was a cheap Chinese made air filter.
I am trying to make a trade with them for a 2019 VW sportwagen with a gas engine and six speed manual. Their sales guy called awhile ago and said he found one. He is getting with his boss to see what the cost would be.

I signed paper work yesterday to get the Sportwagen.
To summarize I started with a VW sportwagen diesel with 100K on it. When it is all said and done I will have paid about $9K plus the wagon to get into the cayenne then into a new 019 Golf wagon with a gas engine and six speed. Turns out owning the Cayenne was a great side detour adventure in the road of life. The new VW is a stripper. The only two options are autonomous driving safety stuff and a comprehensive rubber matt system. It is a six speed manual with the 1.4 gas turbo engine rated 20 some in town and 37 highway mpg. I test drove one in Durham a couple of days ago and it seemed adequately peppy. My old wagon was worth about $9K; the new one stickered at $24, so I count my self to be about $3 to 5K ahead, and I have a new car. Seems pretty good....though it has been an adventure getting from here to there.

The car described above did not work out. Today I put a deposit on a 019 AWD car with a manual tranny and 1.8 motor. It won't be as frugal as the 1.4 but looks like about $300 more on gas every 20K miles (which I might drive in a year). The AWD is raised up a couple inches for more ground clearance and has some extra plastic stuff around the whee wells and under the rockers and is a little jiggly on the ride. It also has the heavy 17" wheels. I'll probably get some 15" wheels and save some weight. It also has vinyl seats instead of cloth and heated seats.
Tornado red. It has a touch of orange in it.....maybe like a Ferrari race car?

Took a trip today to Indy and back. The car was great but I discovered it does not have a cd player. I guess I'll have to add one in the back like I did back when you could not get them in the dash.
Now I want to find out how VW got the alltracks up 2". If there are spacers in the suspension I want to take them out. I ain't going off roading.

If you download music directly from iTunes, it is usually $1.29 per song. I used to have my CDs loaded to my iPhone, but cannot recall the process for doing so. Wasn't rocket science, though. Do you have Apple Carplay in your new car?
