If you decide to trap and kill, but don't want to bother with a 55 gal drum of water, you can cover the trap with a plastic tarp or bag then run exhaust into it. They get sleepy forever. Probably more humane than shooting or drowning.

I have a variety of pellet guns and firearms.

They make high performance pellet guns that could do the job but they are pricey and loud. A .22 short is as quiet as that pellet gun.

Even your typical ineffective pellet gun is pretty loud.

If you shoot the coon with a toy pellet gun it will run to safety under your porch and plot how to get back at you. Joke, sort of, funny for us, not for you.

You buy the trap and run it. Call someone to come get the coon when you trap one. Clean and effective but not free. Salmon flavored dog treats work really well. The stinkier the better.

You will also be trapping cats and possum and what not.

I have a couple of .177 pellet guns, I think they're rated 475 fps when the cartridge is new. They're loud, not as loud as a 22 but the report is significant. I'm telling you: crossbow. People kill feral pigs with crossbows. I'm thinking in a close range kinda thing, say if there's concrete behind the target - chance of ricochet, might want to wear serious eye protection, maybe even a riot cop kind of shield. Sort of intense so the whole thing gets complicated. And shooting one in a cage with a crossbow might have problems.
