Here is what it takes to do the evaporator-

$1500 is a good deal but make sure the heater core is done at the same time, along with a new drier bottle and expansion valve.

It's a very big job! Pretty much the interior all comes out. On any car that's never fun. Had a E430 in the shop that needed this. And when you have a E with tons of goodies its worse. About $1,800 the bill was.

And you think the 220, 208, 209, 221, etc etc are any better?

(JMHO, but when you plagiarize from another forum, including another member's advice, you might at least give credit where it's due...)

No worries - just have KarTek lend a hand on our W210s on a Saturday afternoon.

Local Mercedes tech does them after hours for $800 plus parts, so it was like $1100 or something.

Money well spent... And I usually do everything myself, and I proceeded to sell the car after it was done, Woops.

Well it appears that the good news here is that the evaporator in these cars are not as prone to failure as the early 124's. The blunder on those was that they were made of copper and aluminum which expanded/contracted at different rates. Hopefully they did not do this with the replacement car.

The first 210's are now closing in on the 20 year old mark. The 124 evaporators began failing en masse, much sooner than that.

Of course this is a small consolation for those with a failed 210 evaporator.

I've never done it on a 210, but I have on a 124 and it is as big of a job. If you print out all the sheets from the FSM and have them at hand and lay out the parts in a row as you take them off, then put them back together in reverse order, you won't forget anything.

Just print the FSM pages and take your time. You can knock it out!
