I'd rather die in an MB them drive a Lexus
The last few weeks have been interesting. My SD has come down with a case of Aligenment-itis (seems only one shop in town can get her right... they work with one of the dealers) so the SD is hibernating until her appointment on Thursday. I was driving my Dodge Dakota but she appears to be suffering from brain damage again. I replaced the PCM about 2 weeks ago, and the new one has more problems then the old one. So shes down for the count, until another computer arrives.
This leaves me driving a friends 240D. it looks bad, it has an axle on the way out making a sound every now and then... I greased them and duct taped them, so they are a little quieter. While all this is going on my friend started dating a girl who drives an 05 Lexus ES330. Everyone I know is complementing her on that thing. I on the other hand don't understand why, its a toaster with wheels. I've come to the conclusion that I'd rather die in the 240D then ride in that Lexus. I figure some here must have a similar experience, or at least understand where I'm coming from.

ES is nice (really a camry) but what you really want is the IS/6speed.

I had to put in 50 miles in a Jag X-type today. It's one of the ones that shares a platform with the Lincoln LS IIRC. It was pretty much like driving a Camry. Needless to say, I won't be buying one any time soon.
OTOH, I got to move an Aston Martin DB7 out of the shop today to make room for something else. Even just moving it 50 yards was quite pleasant.

The new ones you can have, but my radar is always out for a nice mid 90's SC or LS400.

My ex received an ES300 from her parents when her 91 Acura Legend dropped a cylinder and wasn't worth the effort to fix. Having learned to drive in a 560 SEL, a 420 SEL, an E320 and a 740iL, The Legend was decent enough a ride and handled kind of interestingly, so I opted to give the ES a shot too. We took her car to a Sting concert (He's my fave, don't hate) at Mohegan Sun, and I drove the way back to Branford (a good 1.5 hr ride). I tried to give it a spirited go, and the car would just soullessly pull forwards. Handling was boring, feeling not a thing from the road and a muffled thunk every time you hit a crease or crack in the road. In all, It was just exactly what I'd expect in a post-police state world where we all have to drive a boring car. It really solidified my love of classic cars.

I liked those old diesels but I'll tell you that having ice-cold a/c AND actually being able to pull away from a light with some power at the same time is really nice. oh and the Jag X-type is an all-wheel-drive Ford Mondeo. The S-type was the Lincoln platformmate.

Absolutely. Not to mention (but i will) reliability up the ying-yang, power window mechanisms that never fail, still-beautiful wood, leather and dash, WORKING cruise control, working tach, NO OIL LEAKS. I could go on. But I'm not a hater. I would never say that I would rather die than drive another old benz.

The IS250 AWD's have really grown on me. At first I thought they were a glorigied Corolla, but that's a stretch.

IS250/RWD/6speed is on my radar. They're definitely getting into my price range used but the manuals are hard to find.

We carried his body (in a casket) to the hearse, which would take him to the crematorium / funeral home. I was surprised when I saw that the hearse was a Lincoln. My first thought was the money they must've spent bringing that car to Japan, instead of using a Toyota, or something. My second thought was that realization that I didn't want my last ride to be in a Lincoln. I have never been a Ford / Lincoln man. My dad always drove Cadillacs, as did my grandmother. I've issued instructions to my wife and close friends, that I am to be transported in a Cadillac hearse.
