The new Maglite is amazing!
I got a 3 cell D battery light a few years back at pick n pull.... found it in the back of a toyota celica. the lens was gone as was the reflector. I found a site online that sold maglite parts. I spent $12 to get a new lens, new reflector and an after market LED bulb. this has been the flashlight in my truck. The new maglite with the maglite factory LED is about 3 time brighter then the after market LED. I'm very happy with the light as it was about the same cost as the one I saved from the junk yard. I'm kind of a Maglite whore, I love how bad a$$ they are, and are still made not only in the USA, but in my home state of CA! other then wine, and delicious fruits and veggies the Maglite has to be one of the best things to come out of CA. I want one of these so bad! sadly not CA legal... http://www.securityarms.com/20010315/galleryfiles/2400/2410.htm

I bought a AA cell LED for work, and quickly took it back. I use the light to peer inside holes on machinery, and couldn't focus the light enough into the hole to see properly. Now, my LED D cell is amazing, but I use it while working on cars, digging around in the basement for lost items, and weighing the tool bench down.

I have a Maglite in each car (AA LED w/ multiple functions) plus my 3x D-Cell LED in my 300D, as well as at home, on my camera bag. Love the bright LED output, plus the spring-loaded button that's VERY easy to turn on momentarily.
Haven't had any batteries stuck in mine, I always want to have fresh batteries in them. But since they have LEDs they last a while.

I have three....the single AAA.....non LED on keychain.......the non-LED AA model in my tray in the car, and the 2D LED model. I have had the 2D model for 3 years, use it regularly....still on the original two batteries. They are awesome. A 3D is pointless with LED.....as the 2D is equally bright, and the batteries last so long this is not even an issue. I'll probably buy another one at some point just to have more of them.

I have a couple of D-cell MagLites that have had batteries leak in them... I need to find a wire brush that's the right diameter and clean them out.
I picked up a SureFire light at a pawn shop last month; Holy COW is that thing bright!

I actually had this same issue with my 6 D Cell mag last month. It turns out most of the battery companies will give you a refund if you sent in the broken flashlight with the stuck batteries. (If the batteries have not gone past their expiration date)
So I sent mine to Rayovac and got 6 new D cells and a check for $33. I've also read on other forums that Maglight has an agreement with the battery companies so you can send it to them as well, but that's just word of mouth and I would contact mag to double check.

Maglite replaced my 5 D cell unit after...
I had to use in self defense while working at a Public Housing Project in Newark, NJ. They wanted to see how a dog could have bitten into the battery compartment!
Pit Bull was sicced on me by a miscreant minority citizen who took offense to the fact we were making the elevators and entry doors actually WORK in his complex. When the AmStaf charged me I jammed the Mag Light into his mouth with both hands across his jaw/back teeth and jammed his jaw open. I kept pushing him back as my partner smacked him with a shovel. He couldn't get his jaw clear to bite me and after being hit 20 or 30 times with a shovel he finally backed down and booked off...his "owner" wrenched the Mag Light out of his jaws and threw it at me and I found it had 4 holes in the battery area that pierced the D cells. Sent it to Mag Light and they replaced it. I still carry the replacement as I was advised by the Housing Auth. cops that it is one of the few legal tools that can be used to keep someone at arms length (out of knife range) with a solar plexus jab when in a close confrontation in a stairway or elevator. Plus you can also use it to beat the **** out of them but I stopped doing that a while back. I have had a few Mag Lights Go South from battery melt down but found if you make a battry sleeve out of thin acetate or mylar between the inside of the barrel and the battery it can save a melt down. BTW I also like the Stream Light and Dazer brands but I ain't paying $75 to $100 for a friggin flashlight. |
