Wow I just bought a mercedes 207d westfalia campervan for £290!!!!!

Van story; (Thought I'd share it with you if you're interested)

I bought it in the local paper from a company that buys and sells scrap cars and vans. It was advertised for £395 and I thought it was a great deal so I drove to look at it (Only 1 mile up the road, it was meant to be).

It's exactly the same as this one, but without the horrid table modification. You'll know what I mean when you see it!;

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=320237374070&Category=9855&_trksid=p3907.m29

I went up had a look and wow this was great, I ummed ahhed and put on my concerned face and offered him £250. He went away to talk with the fella and he came back with £300, to cut a long story short we settled on 290 and I seriously think I got the bargain of the century. I'm doing research and it's prooving to be very exciting, this van is solid, in fantastic condition inside just a leaky roof, a very lumpy engine that cuts out if you take your foot off the pedal and spongy breaks. For a 290 quid I'm over the moon, just need to spend a little on her to make her beautiful again.

I've already fibreglassed and sprayed the roof (6 hour job), it's sealed up tight now and I'm preparing to replace damp affected ceiling boards inside. The engine timing was well out where the accelerator bar was bent so I just unbent it which sped up the idle upto where it should be and it now runs like a dream. Now it's just the front brakes & a suspected weld needed on the driverside step for the MOT.

Questions; (If you can help it would be great thanks in advance)

Are they really that rare that they go for 23,500 dollars over there, I saw a thread on this where someone was selling the exact same one for that amazing amount of money. I'm refurbing it at the moment but I don't want to reduce it's value by making it non standard, should I keep it dowdy brown or trendy it up a tad?

Does anyone know where I can get parts for this? I think I need some new brake components. Thank you.

Thanks for your help guys and best wishes to you all,

Ray

That's awesome....nice find. Kerry and Chad (and everybody else) will be insanely jealous.

Yes - I think they are relatively rare over here. What is that, $600?

Google turned up this site...

Not sure if you have the 2.6T though - I didn't check the ebay listing.....

Correct

Congratulations on your find. I've only gone as far as admiring and coveting ... but Kerry will most likely know where to find parts and lots of info.

That's pretty cool, Ray. Congrats. £290? That's like, about a million dollars US these days, right?

Why do you kind folks over the pond rub our American faces in what we can't have? Just don't post these things anymore; it makes us discontent; then we have to invade somewhere.
P.S. I like the hippy dippy table.

I've owned both a 307d and a 409d. I really like them and I wish I had beat you to that one. But I refuse to give any advice until you've posted comprehensive pictures of the vehicle.
I will say that they are only worth $23,500 in the US if the buyer is a total fool. I sold my 409d for $8900.
