Yep, they're the new wave of hotrods... I mean, think about it...
-RWD -Manual transmissions -Wide choice or rear diff ratios -NA engines which are bulletproof and a total joke to turbocharge, easily putting out above 200 RELIABLE horsepower, with some of them pushing 300hp+. -Choice of adapter plates for Getrag and T5 transmissions -Enough room in the bay for a V8 swap, which many have done -Like someone else said... TONS of cargo room. -excellent hp:weight ratio -SUPER easy to work on -parts are dirt cheap Oh yeah, and they're really safe, too. ![]()

![]() I like to have those wheels for my 780. I was wandering about the safety of Volvo's, are they really that save, the sheet metal of my 780 feels a bit flimsy?

Pretty damn safe. Although the 780 is Bertone designed, so, I don't know how much of an impact that had on the actual safety of the car.. if any at all. I know it shares a lot with th3 740/940 series, and they are "flimsy" compared to the 240's, but believe it or not, they are actually safer on impact because they have better crumple zones than the 240. The 240 is built like a tank though... no flimsiness, only strict utility.

Oh yea, there's no need to go MegaSquirt. Your best bet is to pick up a 240 that has LH2.4 delivery system. It can handle larger injectors and chips quite nicely. The guys suing MS are running the old K-Jet stuff (pre-'85?) which, from my understanding, sucks a$$.

MB v8's of the same era had it also. MS is a HUGE improvement. How would one go about low-balling on the price, without being an ass?

I had a white turbo just like this one. A few small tweaks and that thing was pretty fast.
Unfortunately they all suffer from the biodegradable wiring harness and all the other plastic parts. Headliner falls out, dash parts crumble. Early 740 series had issues with the hydraulic motor mounts. I also had a 242GT. Still remember the red strip in the seats, euro headlights. Pretty slow. |

Dunno what happened to yours, but, we've had ours for 17 years (bought new in 1990) and I have NEVER had to replace a wiring harness, plastic part, headliner, dash part, or hydraulic motor mount. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Wiring harness was a known problem in the late eighties. May have been the Texas heat...who knows. Drive trains are excellent with exception to the PRV V6 they had in the 260/760 series. Safe to drive. Not real fuel efficient though. The dealer issue is what switched me to MBs back in the early 90s. |
