Grey Goose no better than Smirnoff?

I watched a 20/20 segment last night that took a group of self-proclaimed vodka snobs and had them taste test various premium brands. They each had a favorite such as Ketel, Belvedere, Stoli, etc. One of the test samples was the lowly Smirnoff.

Interestingly, they all rated Grey Goose as the worst tasting and smelling. When the vodkas were used for mixed drinks, it became nearly impossible to taste any difference between the most expensive brand and the cheapest. Their reactions were pretty funny.

So much for vodka snobbery!

Grey Goose is the worst tasting Vodka........no doubt about it.

I'll take Smirnoff anytime, but, usually prefer Skyy because it's less likely to give me a headache the next morning.

If I'm feeling flush, I'll get the Finlandia.

Grey Goose is overrated, Stolichnaya blows it away IMO.

I am a bit of a vodka snob I won't drink Popov but I don't mind Smirnoff.

I don't think you have to be a Vodka snob to avoid Popov. If it's impossible to drink in a Martini........right out of the freezer.........forget it.

Smirnoff is close to the edge on that count. I'll mix it but won't drink it straight up.

It's handy to have a shatterproof bottle in your hand when you hit the floor. I can smell that cheap alcohol across the room and almost gag.

One Vodka that people should try is Kettle One if you like Vodka with a Zing its worth a try.

I'm pretty happy with Stolichnaya, I think I'll stick to that. It doesn't give you a hang over as I have found out.

Stoli red, Absolut or Smirnoff for me, all the rest are hype, the new ones are more of marketing than content, Skype included, if you feel good about spending money on vodka in fancy bottle with even fancier ads, go for em by all means.

Russian Standard. Premium quality at about half the price of GG.
29.95 for a 1.75. GG around here is $55.00 for a 1.75 in "discount" places

and gentlemen, my GF from St. Petersburg RU (Leningrad when she grew up)swears she can tell cheap vodka with the first sip of her apple martinis. So, when out, we both order "Kettle &____" since most bars & restaurants don't stock R.S.

^ Ketel is probably the go-to in bars for martinis IMO. For around the house I keep a bottle of Skyy around but I don't drink much vodka at home
