Beautiful looking cars. I know nothing about them other than that.

If you like Jags - check out this site

This is a great site if you're ready to pick up a big cat. I've been teetering on the edge of getting getting into an XKR. This site is cool, they pick up cars at auction, MBs, BMWs and Land Rovers as well. But it's primarily a Jag site. Their prices are in line with Edmunds, no negotiating, you want one, go git it!!!

http://texascarsdirect.com/

On another note, anyone know of a site like MBShop for Jags?? This site is the best!!

That would mean the 722.6. I don't think so, I have never heard mention of this around the Jag forums.

The 722.6 is a good gear box, it would be quite an upgrade for Jag to use one.

The XJR isn't that different from the XJ8. They got a blower, I don't think much else was changed except for maybe the brakes.

If you want to talk Jag this is the place to go:

Welllll,,,,, the Jaguar XJR 1998-2003 tranny part number is 722.650,,,,, coincidence?

And,,,,,,

From Wikipedia.org:

____
The XJR-version featured an 5 speed automatic transmission from the Mercedes-Benz AMG E55 and other high power Benz models.
____

And this from car and driver:
________
The beefed-up powerplant gets a special Mercedes-Benz five-speed automatic transmission to handle all of that engine torque, and there are stiff and sporty suspension settings in place, plus big wheels and Z-rated tires.
It's so fast (5.4 seconds from 0-60 mph), it can match a Ferrari F355. Try that in a Lexus LS 400.
______

By some reviewer at Car Connection:
_______________
Interestingly, while the XJR has a purely British heart and soul, its engine is backed with a Mercedes-Benz five-speed automatic transmission reconfigured to withstand the torque output of the XJR's engine. Despite efforts to reinforce the drivetrain, it was still necessary for Jaguar engineers to program the engine control computer to limit torque during engagement of the first transmission ratio. Even so, once the traction control system is deactivated, simply stomping on the accelerator pedal is all that is necessary to summon plumes of smoke from the rear tires.
________________

From Financial Post reviewer Rob English:

____
Power gets to the rear wheels through, of all things, a Mercedes-Benz five-speed automatic transmission that varies its shift program according to conditions.
____

From WomanMotorist.com:
____
All normally aspirated engines are matched to ZF's superb 5-speed electronic automatic transmission, which has silky shifting, while the XJR uses a unit built by Mercedes Benz that is stronger and set up for crisper shifts. The eight-cylinder engine has been well-proven in the XK8.
____

Hardly academic references, but seems unlikely that they're all wrong.

Well now, seems like the XJR is the model to buy then, it got the better gear box.

I drove a 2005 XKR today. Was going to buy a 2004 E500. Plan's changed. My next car is an XKR, no doubt about it. Faster than a scalded dog. Tight, low noise on highway. Sweeeet ride!! Great exhaust note. Reminded of my old '63 3000 Mk II Healey except comfortable.

Only probelm, at 6' w/o my boots it's a bit of a tight fit. maybe an inch of clearance between the top of my head and the roof (that's hood for the Brits).

My Mercedes Benz dealer mechanic neighbor tells me that the 722.6 is a bullet proof transmission.

It is used in not only the E320 and E430, but also the E55 AMG cars, in addition to the SLR, which puts out something like 600 hp!

My brother has an X-type. 2003 I think? While it's not in the league of an XJR, it is a pretty damn nice car for the price. I like the styling of all the jags and the interior is nice as well. His has held up very well. Again, for the price, it has proven to be a good investment thus far. Peppy engine as well.

A lot of people don't like the 722.6, personaly I like them a lot. I think they are tough and seem to last just as long as any other transmission.

I love the 722.6!

I have them in alot of my cars.

The shifts are smooth and fast! Not to mention that the kickdowns are smooth and fast.
