I wonder what happened to the driver of the Toyota?

Ouch!

I bet it's more than just that, though, huh? I'm with you, though, I'll take the MB, thank you very much.

Wow! All things remaining equal, look at the intrusion into the Toyota. The MB's crumpled but it looks like the doors might even still work.

Okay, but then you'd have to match it up with a G Wagon. MB would still win, eh?

They seem to be the same weight class although the Benz is about 2 generations younger. I think if they were the same age the Toyota would have sustained less damage. It looks as if the Toyota pulled out to pass, they are both right hand drive.

Comparitive tests

Interesting pictures indeed. The test I'd really like to see would be all contemporary Mercedes slammed headlong into all same model year Lexus and see how they stack up.

This is not a fair comparison at all. The Mercedes looks to be twice the size of the Toyota. It's like a truck hitting a little Corolla or something. Look at the rear wheel of the Toyota, it's the size of a shopping cart's wheel. It would be a better comparison if the white car was not a compact car.

Actually, it looks to me as if the Toyota is an early Camry or something similar, which would make it very close to the C class Benz (although if it is indeed a Corolla then it is somewhat smaller, the Benz looks twice the size because the Toyota buckled). Why it is not a fair comparison is that automobile technology has advanced a great deal in 20 years and so a current model Camry would have suffered less damage in the passenger compartment. Although when I lightly touched a tree with my father-in-laws Toyota Mark II, the damage seemed excessive and upon closer inspection, the sheet metal of the trunk (and indeed the rest of the car as well) sounded and felt wafer thin.
It looks to me that there is no one in the Benz, the Toyota is unclear but looks like the dash is occupying the front seats so the driver may have faced some misfortune, especially since the thing didn't have airbag(s). The Benz had both front airbags deployed so it must have had two front passengers, but it seems empty. There are three people in the two pictures, plus the photographer and four cars. Who knows?

the passenger side A pillar on the benz looks a lil deformed...

and notice the yota's floor pan in the second picture. is bulged downwards, i doubt that car had a strong enough firewall to hold the engine in the compartment its supposed to be in

I'm almost positive that it is a Corolla, the body style available from the 1993-1997 model years.

That's exactly my point...you can clearly see that it's a Corolla so I agree with you.
