Snobs???
What is it that when I am in my 69 220 D, that when I look or wave at someone in a newer MB that they just give me a funny look, like they are too good for me, don't wave, or just turn and pretend like they don't see me?
I don't do that when I am driving my 98 E320. Just wondering??????? |

This isn't one of those "art" cars where you have plastic frogs glued to you paisley paint job, is it?

Just show those other drivers the Costco sized jug of Grey Poupon you keep in the glove box.
. . . and don't forget that Dijon Ketchup! (thanks to the BNL) |

It's a huge fad here. They even throw a parade in Montrose, the "alternative lifestyle" part of Houston, once a year. Some are interesting. I liked one where the guy had built this enormous pair of sunglasses over the windshield complete with frames that attached to his sideview mirrors that were converted into ears.

I de-badged my old '73 220D and re-badged with VW Wolfsburg crests front and rear, along with the model script "Variant". I even replaced the steering wheel badge with VW version and used Vanagon wheels with stock VW hubcaps. Left folks scratching their heads wherever I went...I miss that car greatly.

I have no idea, because the car enthusiast crowd I run with admires vintage MB's and I notice the general public seems to do the same. Are you sure you are waving at them with all five fingers? Thanks, Richard |

You can't expect the nod from every car in the marque. Generally I only get/give a nod to another 116. Same with my Landcruiser, FJ 62, and BMW E12.
You would break a wrist waving to every mb on the road. |

It's not a piece of crap that is astroturfed out or anything, just old.
It is not the best car on the road, but far from the worst. I only try to look at throw a hand up at the guy next to me as we are stuck in traffic. I know I would be waving all day otherwise You mean you aren't supposed to wave with only the one finger JK I guess it is the same for my motorcycle. I generally wave to all motorcyclists, but only about 30% of the Harley riders will wave. Yeah, I ride one of those crazy fast "rocket bikes." Guess it's just another one of those things I will have to live with. |

Merc drivers - a least in SoCal - had an attitude in the old days - for being a*s h**les - then just boring. Now maybe they're a new generation of AH - I wonder if Porsche people still blink at each other.

I don't know.... when I had my 1972 280se 4.5... someone would come up to me almost every time i got gas to ask me about it.
People would look and nod approvingly on the road, too.... Never noticed any other mercedes owners or their reactions. I'll take the older ones any day. |

I meet a lot of other Mercedes drivers in walk up conversations. My 83 280SL is fairly rare, and I get a lot of enquiries on where I got it or comments on how nice it looks from other Benz drivers.
