Chris at Swedish Performance is a great mechanic. He specializes in Volvos, but he might have a recommendation for you. If I still lived in Portland, he would definitely be my mechanic no matter what I was driving.

Autometrics in Brunswick.

I have nothing but good things to say about these guys! I even trust 'em with my Karmann Ghia But sometimes you may have to wait a week or two to get an appointment. If it's an emergancy they'll usually try and get yer car in. Coolent froze up on my Passat(-15 degrees) they got it in that day and let it take up a bay for two days while it thawed, flushed it three times to get it working right and in the end only charged me the $23 for a normal coolent flush...

they do Mercedes, VW, Volvo, Honda, Subaru, Saab and vintage european cars, last summer I saw a few old aircooled VWs, Jaguar E-type coupe, a few sunbeams...

I highly recomend these guys, never had to go in twice always fixed the first time, they're always very honest and in general very nice people there.

Maine Shop

Might be a bit late... but German Auto Service in Saco, on North Street, right next to the railroad tracks was my mechanic for years... they are still around, however I haven't used them in about 4 years.... 2000 miles is a bit far to travel for service. When I did I was treated with honesty, respect and fair pricing.
