what is the MB that looks like the VW bus
hi
Last year i was in someones back yard and in the woods was a little camper bus like the VW but it had a rag roof? or big sun roof. It looked to be the 240D motor in it. I have been looking around to see if I could find one but no luck. Does anyone know what Mercedes this is? thanks dave 190e 16v IROC 911 gyrocopter |

You may have seen a Vaneo, a mini van like vehicle not being sold in the U.S.
You can log on to MB site (not the N. American site) and see for yourself.

A few possibilities would ba a O319 Mercedes bus from 1956 to 1968, these could have the small windows in the sides of the roof like a VW bus, or a MB L 306 or 206 from 1970 through 1977. Both of these you will see on occasion in the US converted to a camper van.
Gilly ps These were available in Diesel or gas, the Diesel version would have a "D" at the end of the model name ie O 319 D, the engine would be a 4 cylinder Diesel, so it's look a little like the 240D motor to the untrained eye. i have a picture on a disc of a 319 with the cloth sliding sunroof, don't know how common this was. The O319 has a more rounded front end, round headlights, the 306/206 has a more squared off appearance with rectangular lights.

Dave:
The best advice I can give at this point is to check out the one you saw last year, sounds interesting, unless it's a total rust-out. Otherwise check out the Hemmings Motor News magazine and/or website. Do all the stuff you'd normally do to find something you want, you know, word of mouth, newspaper ads, check the websites for leads. If you're persistant, you'll come up with one. Good luck and happy hunting. Gilly

L319
I have an L319 Panoramma Bus - mine has a 4 cyl gas engine , thus the L rather than the O.
I have some info that I will post on a version that was a rolling office! Mine is an 18 passenger bus. |
