I keep getting P2048 engine error code on my 2010 ML350 bluetec. car has 26 K miles. P2048 is reductant injector circuit low bank 1 unit 1. something to do with addblue injector, there is plenty of addblue fluid
Car is out of warranty. I took it to the dealer and they said $1,200 to fix but they did not have the part in stock. I thought since this is an emission control issue it would be warranty coverage but they said no. Anyone have any ideas/comments please ?

You would need to get the specific wording for emission related parts warranty, I'm pretty sure that not everything is covered to the same mileage / time.

OK the part came in and made the appointment for installation. It was supposed to be 2 hour job so I decided to wait for it. The whole thing took 5 hours with complications.
The mechanic said after installing the injector or they call it metering valve, he cleared the error then bunch or new errors registered. He reprogram some computer and that did not help. The mechanic traced the wiring and found worn wire harness that was rubbing against the transmission. He repaired the wiring then all errors went away. He said the valve may have failed due to wiring problem. They stuck to the estimate repair price. What I learned from this experience is I am done with bluetec, bluetec should be badge of shame. I am not touching any new vehicle that has addblue.

So wire harnesses rubbing on the transmission are bluetec only?

I'd hardly call one failure cause to run from the car. I've got 40 years in and around the car business and have seen lots of " I had a failure and won't buy a car with. . . ." Remove Bluetec and replace with: Automatic transmission Electronic fuel injection Electronic ignition Alternator ( instead of a generator ) Front wheel drive Radial tires Disc brakes Power brakes Power steering And going farther back: 12V electrical system instead of 6V Negative ground rather than positive ground Electric starter Cars made of steel not wood |
