We have just acquired a 10 months old ML 350 in dark blue. Being our first mercedes, and coming from many years in Land Rovers, I must say that this is a very nice change indeed.
On a more down to earth and practical subject, the owner's manual mentions that the engine temperature may go up to 100 c in hard working situations, which you will all agree sounds rather hot!!! our ML so far has been running a bit above 80 (on the instrument cluster readout) which shows as a couple of degrees above the "horizontal" position either sitting in traffic or running at 85 on the motorway. I assume that this is a normal operating temperature for the 112 engine but any comments from the more ML/ 112 experienced owners will be most welcomed. Regards, Luc |

If I'm not mistaken, this is normal. I asked the dealership the same question. I have a CLK 430 and it's usually running around above the 80. I test drove a brand new ML500 and noticed it was a bove 80 as well.

Engine temp
On both my MY00 430 and my current MY05 500 the temp never reached 100C no matter how hot the ambient temp was or how hard you worked it, even in the desert in summer. It would always stop climbing when it got to about 95C. Normally it runs just above 80C. So I would say what you have is normal!!

Many thanks for your replies.
I have actually spoken to my dealer's workshop people who made similar comments and everyone seems to agree that the 112 engine runs at bit above 80c and then goes up to about 85c+ if sitting in traffic/ restricted air flow.
I guess I was rather surprised to see the owner's manual mentioning normal engine temps in excess of 100C!!!!. regards, Luc |
