I am considering these Evolution II (17x7.5 - Polished)wheels for my E420. However, I do have a few things that i'm not sure of.
http://www.bekkers.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=BI&Product_Code=evoII7172&Category_Code=morimsevo ======== The width 7.5 and offset of 37mm means it would fit perfectly on a non-500 W124 right? -- What is the part number of this particular wheel as I'd like to find out how much the local dealers want for them. Whenever I ask them they just tell me "....don't fit on 95 E420s" -- Has anyone got a picture of these wheels on a non-500 W124? -- Does anyone have this setup? If so, which tires (brand and size do you use?) -- I would most probably go with 215/45/17 P6000s or 225/45/17 Michelin Pilot Sports Thanks! -Holson-

the dimensions you listed are correct for your W124 and the tire size you should use is a 215/45-17

Luke knows
I have 7.5" ET37 AMG wheels on my 1995 E320 and they seem to fit perfectly. Mine are only 16" in diameter, but in terms of width and offset I think you will be right on the money with those Evo II wheels. Luke helped me when I purchased my AMGs from Tirerack. He definitely knows what he is talking about.
As for the width, I only have the Tirerack-recommended 205/55/16 on my 16 x 7.5 ET37 AMGs, but I am planning to try 215/55/16 next time. Everyone, even Luke, thinks that 215s will fit fine. On your 17" wheels, I have read that you can fit 225s, even though 215s are what is recommended. I would ask Luke if he thinks the 225s will fit, even though 215s are the recommended size. He might not offer the information unless you ask specifically. I wish I had asked if 215s would fit, before I purchased the 205s. After all, I was trying to get fatter tires on my E320. I think the Evo II wheels will looks great on your car. The more open design, however, may force you to paint your calipers. Below is a front view of my car. You can see how far out the 7.5" ET37 wheel sits in the fender and how wide a 205 looks on a W124.

280 ea. for 4... if one of the dealers in my area could do that I would definitely get them... Even at $340 ea. they are cheaper than Bekkers'
Most of the parts guys just don't care especially since my car's old. I gotta talk to someone who knows better. I'm gonna go wheel hunting tomorrow I guess. thanks for the picture ksing. Looks like ET37 is just right for a W124. Though as I understand it, AMG installed the Aero II Monoblocks of ET42/ET41 on the later model W124 AMGs... If only I could find those again. Wouldnt 225s definitely fit then? also, does anyone know how much these wheels weigh? I really want to use 225/45/17 tires. I was wondering... if I got the narrowest 225s.. would they fit?

ET (42/41) Phone Home
From what I have read, I think you are right that the higher offset would be the best set-up to accommodate the widest tire possible. Most of the wheels seem to be ET35, so I feel lucky to have gotten ET37. I sure don’t want to rub on the outside of the fender. It sounds like it can do some damage to the lower plastic panels, when the ET is too low and/or the tires are too wide. I might be able to live with some occasional tire scuffs on my suspension, but I sure don’t want to have damage on the painted surfaces of my car. I saw the damage on CME4BENZ’s earlier model CE. As I remember, he had new 16" 8-hole wheels with 215s. He didn’t remember the offset when I talked to him, but I thought the wheels and tires were sticking out a bit too far. He has a stock suspension and he said it only rubbed when he cornered hard and the car’s suspension was compressed from a bump in the corner. With my firmer suspension, I don’t get much suspension movement while cornering, so my car may allow for a wider set-up without rubbing.
225s will certainly be at the limit, with ET35 or ET37. Actually, I think they will rub. I am even a little worried about the 215s on my 16" x 7.5" ET37 wheels, except that I have read that many people have no trouble when they use 215s on their 17" x 7.5" ET35 wheels. If you can find ET42/ET41, I bet the 225 tires would fit fine inside the fenders. I don’t know the weight of my wheels, but I’m pretty sure they are fine and similar to my OEM alloys. After all, they are the original AMG Monoblock I wheels. I feel like they were specially made for my car. I know what you mean about feeling that the parts guys don’t care about us and our older cars. I’m not sure if they really don’t want to be bothered with me, or if it is just my impression. I doubt that they act the same way with a guy that just purchased a new S500 or SL. After they see my car, however, they usually get the idea. I’ll bet they would treat you better, if they saw the beautiful condition of your car.

I have 17x7.5 ET30, with 225/45/17 rubber, no rubbing problems on my first set of tires, and second set still no rubbing, and my car is lowered.
ET 30 is further out than 35 or even 37, both 35 and 37 will work. I believe AMG used 17x8 ET28 on the AMG W124's with a fender spacing kit. Alon

![]() This was my dad's car and we bought those replica 16" wheels. I believe they were 16x7.5 ET35 - the 215s rubbed on the plastic cladding as you can see in the picture. (215/55/16 Dunlop SP9000s) 215/55/16 is slightly larger than the stock 195/65/15 though. I really want 225/45/17 because it's the same size as 195/65/15s mounted on 7.5" wide wheels. But at the same time, i don't want any rubbing.. we'll see.. I called a dealer here that could do $263 ea. for 4 but the parts guy was not sure if they are available. The part number is B6 647 0518

In reference to you guys with the 16"s on W124's, I have run 205/55-16, 215/55-16, and now 225/50-16. The 205's are perfect, the 215's are to tall, and you may see rubbing, I now have the 225's, and love them over the rest. Just enough rubber on the ground, no rubbing, and a great look.

I am running 215/55/16 with 16*7 OEM wheels, offsett 46, and have experienced absolutely no rubbing. These wheels came standard on the euro version of E420.
However, 225/45/17 with 17*7,5 wheels, offsett 35 rubbed. I will soon try the same 17 setup with original AMG wheels with offsett 42. I have been told these will not rub. http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/535892 |

Like I said, you may see rubbing. I did with Goodyear RS-A's that came from an E420. When i put Michelin XGT's on, they did not, they were a touch shorter. All tires are not the same...all cars are not the same. Rubbing only occurred in the front tires during a hard slow turn into a driveway etc... I feel the 225/50-16's is the best match: performance/look/tire options

I run 225/45R17 tires on 17x7.5 ET37 MB Avant-garde 5-spoke wheels, no rubbing, even under track conditions.
I'm going to push it though with some 245/45R17 tires. I know my front fenders will clear since I installed the AMG spacer kit, and did a test run with 245/50R16 tires on 16x8 ET34 MB 500E wheels. Only the left rear tire rubber on hard-turns, so I'm hoping with a narrower wheel and higher offest, I'll be good. Otherwise, I'll need to find some 235/45R17 tires . . . :-) neil 1988 E36T AMG 1993 500E |

I'm getting to it...
Sorry Neil,
The prep work of the 190 for the OneLap has taken more of my time than I thought and time is running short as it starts at the end of the month. Have had the motor on the engine dyno, added flares, 9.5" wheels all around, sleeping quarters, extra fuel cell, three 12V outlets, new 7" Hella driving lights with a turn yaw built in. etc. The NC state emissions inspection I didn't even try to pass so will run with the 30 day waiver to get it repaired! HA HA! Plan to turn the plates back in after the event, no problem. When I return I'll be focusing on putting my L/S in the 400E along with the lower gear. There are some other things on the 400E that also need some attention that I've put aside for too long. I'll keep you abreast of the install. Tobias MB 190/5.8 |
