Inside of tire "chunking" out !?!?
OK part of the reason I am replacing my Kumho tires are that they are very chunked out on the inside, where the tire meets the rim. My mechanic showed me this several weeks ago and thought it was due to a bad installer putting a narrow tire on a large rim.
Recently I have read that aggressive driving with tires that have sidewalls which are too stiff could be the culprit. Since the tires came with the car Im not sure how aggressively the car was driven. Personally I am a very aggressive straight line and highway driver, but am much more relaxed when cornering and turning, other than the occasional nice fish tail. What do you guys think cause this? Is this dangerous? I would say all 4 tires are chunked out and some belts are showing. They are only chunked where the tire meets the rim and the chunks themselves are about an inch or 2 in size. Part of the reason I ask is that I want to make sure it doesnt happen again.

the sidewall stiffness you mention would not have that effect ... that would effect the tread area

I think it may have been a bad installer, but I guess I will never know. I hope its not too dangerous until I get my new tires on.
