Please excuse if this Question was asked before but rather looking around and getting different answers I rather go straight to you and ask.
Can I fit 225/50/16 into my reararches without any Modifications? Thank you in advance. Toby |

I doubt it, 225/50/16 is a somewhat tight fit under a W124 rear. The safe bet would be to stick (no pun intended) with 215 section width but get the stickiest stuff you can find. On some tires 215 is wider than other's 215 because of casing profile. (look at the shape of a touring tire and a max performance tire side-by-side...see how blocky the max performance tire is by comparision?) Its probably doable, but you will likely have to roll the fenders or deal with some amount of rubbing. You can call TireRack. (banner at top of page) Their fittment database is very complete but somewhat conservative. The upside of which is if they say a size will fit you know it will fit under ALL conditions. Beyond that I'll let the 190 Guru's chime in. Eckenrod...DOC, I'll defer to you two for the final word.
Hope this helps...Lee [This message has been edited by Lee Scheeler (edited 07-10-1999).] |

Use the search function in the upper right hand corner of this page. Search for "190e tire". You will find several messages on the topic and see what some other 190 owners are doing about tires.

One of our Shop Forum members uses 225/45 16 which might be an option. These tires have the same tread width as the 225/50 16 but have a 2% smaller diameter vs stock and are lower profile. This would make your car slightly lower and slightly quicker off the line. The 225/50 16 you are considering have a 1.6% larger diameter than stock. The rule of thumb is to keep your tire diameter within 3% of stock to avoid speedo and computer problems.
Just a thought... ------------------ Bill Wood - Webmaster MercedesShop.com, LLC |

hi there 7 year old thread...
225 50 16 works with stock suspension and stock fenders in the rear, provided your offset isn't somthing outrageous.
