Refinishing Chrome wheels to silver?

I've always been impartial to chrome....

In the next few months I'd like to strip all the chrome off and refinish these Lorinsor wheels to a silver color like my Monoblocks.

I like the wheels themselves -- they are 16x17 which is nice.

How can I get a finish similar to my Monoblocks? (large photo click link)

Is there a specific paint product I should use?
What about the physical change from chrome to silver, is it gonna come out good?

Any thoughts?

I've had that done before. While some people think it's okay to blast the chrome off, that poses two risks, one that the alloy will pit and two that it can structurally weaken the wheel. The proper way to do it is to either have a metal plating shop chemically remove the chrome or to find the appropriate chemicals to use to polish the chrome off. The latter would require some kind of high speed grinderish device with a small head to fit into the crevices of the wheels.

FWIW, this is a picture of one of the wheels after the chrome was polished off. That and a soapy water wash.

Media blast. Not with sand bcuz it's gonna pit like what mark said. Ask if they have other media besides sand that could penetrate chrome but not alloy.

2 of my 4 tires keep deflating....I think its getting close. Its definitely a bead issue since I had my local tire shop "attempt" at fixing it. They put some bead seal and it was great for about a month, now its randomly deflating again.

Is stripping the chrome and refinishing silver professionally gonna be expensive? Should I just call it quits and spend the money on a set of Monoblocks or the like?

The chrome on the wheels on my E500 has flaked and caused leaks on two wheels. To get the seal back, you need to take a steel brush or a wheel to the chrome to make sure all the chrome is off the mounting surface. My tire shop did that on the two leaky ones and they've held perfectly fine since March.
