195/70/14 on 6.5 inch rims?

It's time for new tires on my 84 wagon that has 6 inch rims that are pretty trashed. I have a set of 6.5 inch rims that are much nicer and would like to use them with a 195/70/14 tire. Is this combo OK or is the tire too narrow? Both sets of rims are factory Bundts. Thanks for any advice-Scott

It should work, but a 195/70 would be much happier on a 5.5" rim. Check the tire manufacturer's site, as they will (almost always) give recommended rim widths.

No.

I tried 195/70-R14 with a set of 6.5 wide bundts on my 250C.
Just looked undertired, ended up marrying the tires to a set of 6.0" bundts.
I was amazed at how much difference it made jumping down from the 205/70 tire to the 195/70.

The 6.5 inch bundts are about 19# the 6 inchers about 14# the exta weight will negatively impact handling and ride. It will ride much rougher.

The 6.5" rims are for the heavier s class.

The little 5.5" rims are the lightest and offer the sweetest ride and handling for a 240 or 300, imho. They are just right for teh 195/70s too. Thats what I have on my 83 240/300d stick.

So you didn`t like the 205/70/14, HMMM. I had the 195/70/14 on the 300D, and then went up to the 205/70/14. Seemed to handle a lot nicer with the 205. the 195 seems too narrow to me.

as far as rim width, Iam not sure. they are bundts.

I know a guy that put 195/70 R14's on his 14x6.5 bundts and said it looked fine.

Well- sounds like it will work fine, maybe just look a little funny. maybe I should go up to a 205/70/14. What sort of trouble would I have (if any) with the larger tires? This is a wagon and I carry a lot of weight frequently. Thanks for the replies-Scott
